The new Pixies EP is reminding me of why they were my one hundred percent favourite band in 1990 and 1991. They've come back with 3 good songs out of the 4 and these 3 good songs are all worthy of following 'Trompe Le Monde'.
I'm loving these songs!
Neil reviews up, Clinic written and up soon.

Yeah, "Andro Queen" is the only one I don't care for out of all the songs they've released so far, I've loved everything else. Pitchfork's 1.0 review of the EP is absolutely insane. If you don't think "Indie Cindy" and "What Goes Boom" sound like Pixies song then you've placed the band on some untouchable pedestal they should not be on. They're Pixies songs through and through and they're more than worthy of the band's legacy.

Just read the pitchfork review. Are they insane? No mention of the context, plus factual errors (first new music, 'bagboy' or 'bamthowk' both came first) and positioning the Pixies in the 1980s, when that clearly reveals the reviewer regurgitating the same old 'surfer rosa' was the best. 'Surfer Rosa' and 'Come On Pilgrim' essentially were a 17 song demo tape they recorded in 1987. By the time 'Doolittle' came out, with yes, a proper producer, the advance in performance and songwriting was immense.
By the time of 'Bossanova' and 'Trompe Le Monde' Kim was just a bass player. She had zero creative influence. If her departure has prompted this unexpected arrival of new songs, as if she was holding them back, I welcome it. Of the five new songs, including 'Bagboy', 3 are good enough to appear on any Pixies album, excepting the damn near perfect 'Doolittle'. The Pixies haven't really changed - besides, 'Frank Black' has also released about 14 solo albums since 'Trompe Le Monde'.
As I said, context.
